This is the second of the Sam Dane interplanetary private detective books. Sam is an ex-cop turned private who enjoys an intergalactic reputation. This mystery puts him up against a world leader, a band of revolutionaries and some very mean capitalists.
Bob has done a good job crafting a detective in a classic mold of a tough guy with a heart. His small acts of kindness provide him with help in surprising ways. He is a likeable character.
I found this book more polished than the first book, In the Blood posted here a week or so back. I enjoyed it too but this one put some synthetic oil in the cylinders and they seem to run more smoothly.
The plot is intricate without being confusing. The aliens are alien enough to add color but share emotional attributes that are identifiable.
The story is fast paced and quite entertaining. Sam shows surprising restraint and exhibits laudable traits. There may be the root to a parable in his surprise to find an honest man.
I recommend this book!

This book may have been received free of charge from a publisher or a publicist. That will NEVER have a bearing on my recommendations.
