Cover Art Unveiled and Release Information for H. David Blalock's Doom Angel!

Seventh Star Press is proud to unveil the new cover art and interior illustrations by Matthew Perry for H. David Blalock's Doom Angel, the third and final installment in his Angelkiller Triad.  The eBook version of this exciting urban fantasy adventure will be released this Friday, with the print version to follow next week!

In Doom Angel, the final confrontation between Jonah Mason's Army and the Dark Minion Dorian Azrael doesn't just dictate the fate of the Angelkiller's resistance cell. It is the key battle in a larger, global Conflict that can turn the tide against the oncoming Armageddon. It all will come down to who survives when the smoke clears, and who will receive their final reward.

Philistine by Steven Shrewsbury

This story appears to be historically inspired by the biblical tales of Goliath, the champion of the Philistines.   It seems that the Philistines were often mercenaries for hire. Goliath was the NBA size warrior who was their champion.

I felt the story was someone disjointed.   I followed it but the action happened all over the place.  There was a lot of detailed mayhem.  This is not a book for the faint of heart.   Goliath was not a nice person but neither were the assorted ogres, monsters, godlings, demons or priest/priestess.

I see some similarities to Gorias from the previous Shrewsbury works but Goliath is not nearly as likeable.  Gorias LaGaul, a barbarian’s barbarian,  was in my review of Thrall and Overkill.  I liked those books better.

This book has action galore as well as gore to spare.

Reclamation by Jackie Gamber

This is the sequel and closing volume to Redheart  and Sela, Jackie’s first and second books in the Leland Dragon Trilogy. 

Reclamation wraps up the story and ties all of the characters together.  Dragons, humans and Murkers work to heal the land while Fordon Blackclaw continues to destroy the magic. 

Old characters morph into new likeable characters.  Old hatreds morph into healing.  "Heal the land and heal the rift" and "Heal the rift and heal the land" is the theme of this final book in the trilogy.

Gamber shows that holding prejudice and hatred is a sure path to demoralization and defeat.   Difference is appearance and even species is shown not to be a hindrance to friendship and cooperation. 

Desert dragons and mountain dragons, good dragons and bad dragons, the books are infested with dragons.   That is one of the reasons I loved them.  

Gamber has created loveable and despicable characters.   She imbues them with real feelings, emotions and frustrations.   Jackie Gamber brings alive dragons and adventure with colorful, involved storytelling.   Once again, the warm characters and very believable emotions produce a book that will be remembered and cherished.

I highly recommend the book.

Leland Province remains in danger. The sinister Fordon Blackclaw has returned from the shadows to strike at the heart of neighboring Esra, killing its Venur and making clear his intentions to retake what was once his: Mount Gore, seat of the Leland Dragon Council.

Shadow Gate by Kate Elliott

Following Spirit Gate, this book continues where the last finished.   In this volume we have flying horses, horrific behavior and a twinkle of light at the end of the tunnel.  Flying eagles instead of dragons, the Reeves are expected to keep an eye on the Hundred.   The Guardians who were judge and executioner have disappeared leaving the Reeves to handle it all.   Tumult is spreading across the Hundred and the Reeves and their eagles appear to be helpless to stop it but perhaps some Guardians haven't turned to the Dark
Side. (alas a child of Star Wars)

Joss finds his grief shaken by the appearance of one thought long dead.  He grabs himself by the boot straps and pulls himself out of his self pity and becomes a leader.

 Captain Anji and Mai figure prominently in this volume.  The Captain's unshakeable confidence and Mai's subtle but almost overweening business acumen get  his Qin started on the path of stability in the Hundreds where their skill in arms is deeply needed.

Once again greed and avarice have an impact on the fate of the characters with some new colorful magic splashing forth. 

An excellent middle volume for a captivating trilogy.
